That GD test!

For those of you who aren't up on the lingo- GD isn't a dirty word but refers to gestational diabetes. At 24-28 weeks your doctor usually gives you the test to determine if you are one of the lucky ones affected. The quick breakdown is that while pregnant many hormones and the placenta begin blocking insulin in the body. The body has to produce up to 3x as much insulin to compensate for this and sometimes the body cannot produce enough. This can affect the baby's weight and health as well as the mother's. Yesterday was our big day. Baby and I went to the doctor's office and drank down the flat, orange soda-ey glucose concoction and had our blood test.

Uh oh- we didn't pass. So........tomorrow we'll be back at the doctor's office for a long, 3 hour test. More drinking, and 4 more blood tests over a span of 3 hours. We will be on our knees praying tonight that we will pass with flying colors- but if not?! Mommy will have to adjust her diet! (And just in time for the Thanksgiving season). On a serious note- allthough Bryan and I are already health-conscious eaters I will do whatever it takes to make sure our Little Man is healthy and happy. My mom teases me and says I'm already acting like a "mother bear". Guess I learned from the best.
