This past Saturday (May 5th) Bryan and I took Sean on his first trip to the Nashville Zoo. It was raining in Franklin, so we thought we might be postponing again! (Last attempt in April it was too cold and all of the animals were inside.) Luckily in Nashville the weather broke and it turned out to be a lovely day.
Let the logistics begin......Sean is only nearing 4 months and cannnot wear sunscreen. We were hoping we could use the stroller without the seat but he is still just a little too small and the straps won't hold him in properly. We also thought about carrying him in a front carrier but there was no way to prevent the sun from touching his baby skin. So- he had to be confined to his carseat/stroller. We rigged up a nice awning for him so he would have plenty of room to look out the sides. He really seemed to enjoy being outside. We think he's already a nature baby!
Daddy and mommy took turns carrying him when appropriate (larkeet cage, elephant area, any shade etc). Sean's eyes lit up when we entered the Reptile House. The aisles are dark and the lizard, fish, reptiles are in back-lit aquariums. He loves lights! Of course this section was also air conditioned so he promptly fell asleep as we held him in our arms (no strollers allowed here).
Bryan and I had a great time and Sean loved the movement, sounds and sights of the zoo, even though he didn't fully realize the animals even existed. He can't wait to go back with BFF Hank or his cousin Meredith to play in the TOT Spot. Mommy and Daddy might have to take turns playing on the jungle gym........have you seen how big it is!????
