On October 28, 2006, we gathered at the Holy Nativity Lutheran Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin at 4:00pm to welcome our little niece into the Lord's Family.
Alicia and Mikie gave me one of the best gifts I have ever received and asked me to be Meredith's Godmother. Paul(our college friend)was asked to be the Godfather.
During a family ceremony Pastor Paul (Alicia's father) baptised Meredith as I held her in my arms. Although she napped on and off throughout the ceremony she was very awake when the holy water was splashed on her head. Meredith wore her mommy's christening gown made of eyelet lace and pink ballerina shoes from Grammy and Poppy (which didn't make it through the whole ceremony because she likes to be barefoot). Meredith's oldest cousin Emma played Ode to Joy on her violin and all of the cousins gathered to sing Jesus Loves Me. At the end of the ceremony Pastor Paul held Meredith up to the cross and we all welcomed her with open arms.

Alicia's family hosted a potluck dinner for us all to share afterwards in the fellowship hall. Grammy and Poppy brought a beautiful cake from Trefzgers Bakery in Peoria- it was a hit! After visiting with the other family members we went back to Alicia's parents' house and played "Deal or No Deal". Let's just say..none of us were very lucky. (Except those of us who got to hold Meredith as the others played.)
Uncle Bryan and I gave Meredith a mustard seed charm and a small porcelain baby shoe that read "Jesus Loves Me". In her card we gave her two important quotes:
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Matthew 17:20
If you have faith as small as a mustard seed... Nothing will be impossible for you.
It was a beautiful weekend and we feel so blessed to have shared it with Meredith and all of her family. We look forward to being an active part of her life and can't wait to see her again.
